BILLINGS, MT SFU failed to pick up a needed three points in a game that saw the Clan take the lead in the 30th minute. The loss breaks SFU’s six game unbeaten streak and is their first ever loss against Montana State-Billings.

Although the Clan will be disappointed with the loss, they can take positives from the fact that they have continued to score in every GNAC game this season, with Mamadi Camara scoring his fourth goal of the season against the Yellowjackets.

It was a close knit affair in the first half as both sides looked to get ahead, the Billings came close in the first five minutes after a long ball into the SFU box found Yellowjacket forward JD Hauenstein shot from short range, but the effort was parried by the SFU backline before it reached Miguel Hof’s goal.

The Clan took an initial lead in the 30th minute of play, after Camara nicked the ball from the feat of the defending Billings player by the right corner before dribbling into the box and fishing a low shot past the goalkeeper from close range to put SFU up 1-0.

The home side found an equalizer before half time as Guillaume Kremer scored from 25 yards with a direct free kick in the 38th minute.

The Yellowjackets took a 2-1 lead seven minutes into the second half after a combination of passes that saw MSUB forward Victor Sanchez finish a low cross from Eli Williams.

The Clan came close to finding an equalizer in the 75th minute, but Marcello Polisi’s free-kick was stopped by Billings goalkeeper Tom Lohmann.

This loss comes as a blow to SFU’s hopes for a GNAC Championship as they are now level at the top of the table Seattle Pacific University and two points ahead of Western Washington. SFU will, however, does control their destiny, as they’ve got a game in-hand on Seattle Pacific, and will face both teams at home to close the regular season.

SATURDAY: SFU play their final regular season road game against Northwest Nazarene University this weekend, before heading home to face their top GNAC rivals the following week.

Northwest Nazarene are coming off a 0-0 draw with Western Washington and stand 5th in the GNAC standings. The previous meetings between the Clan and Nazarene saw Simon Fraser win 3-1 at home.
