BURNABY, BC — Brenda Uribe’s goal for the visitors early in the second half ended any Simon Fraser hopes of making it to the postseason playoffs, despite a dogged performance from head coach Annie Hamel’s team in torrential rain at Terry Fox Field.

SFU’s inability to secure a win against Concordia, coupled with Seattle Pacific’s 3-0 win against the Montana State Billings shuttered any hopes the Clan had of making the playoffs this season. The Clan side sit at fifth place in the GNAC standings with a 4-6-0 conference record with two games left, meaning they are unable to catch any of the teams above them in the table to make the top-four.

Despite the unwanted result, SFU did well to match their opponents considering the last meeting between these two sides ended 3-0 in favour of the Cavaliers earlier in the month. The Clan racked up six shots in the match and managed more shots on target than their opponents by way of 4-3.

SFU managed to get through the first half unscathed after the Concordia forward Kyra Radcliffe hit the crossbar and Sydney Van Steenberge failed to convert the rebound.

Katelyn Erhardsen looked to put SFU into the lead in the 28th minute, but her shot was parried by Concordia goalkeeper Anna Miller, who made four saves on the night.

SFU did well to keep pace with their opponents until Uribe’s strike from distance found its way past Simon Fraser goalkeeper Priya Sandru in the 47th minute, putting the away side up 1-0.

Jenna Lee-Baxter had the Clan’s best chance in the second half coming close in the dying minutes, as her shot from 25 yards was saved by Miller, who ensured the Cavalier shutout.

THIS WEEK: SFU will now move onto their final two games of the season against Saint Martin on Thursday at 5 pm, and on the road at Western Oregon on Saturday at 1 pm.
